daVinci Technical Institute

Project Notes

What is a Project?:

A project is a goal whose completion necessitates production of documentable product(s) as well as the exercise of skills or abilities. At da Vinci Technical Institute, projects also have a community tie-in. Funds for projects can be raised by: applying for a grant from da Vinci Technical Institute; profitability of past projects; or from the community through fundraising or an investor.

What are credits?:

Credits fulfill graduation requirements and are acquired by completing projects. In order to receive credit, a project must be approved in a review meeting including at least one faculty member and one other student. The review board will provide suggestions, approve the project if possible, and estimate the quantity of credits the project will be worth. After completing the project, the review board will reconvene and will allocate credits based on the documentation provided of the project’s success and effort. The review board may suggest revisions or improvements worth additional credits.

Profitability:

Profitable student projects are encouraged, since profitability is part of sustainability. As compensation for access to equipment, building, etc. 25% of profits will go to da Vinci Technical Institute. The remainder of the profit will be divided on a case by case basis with amounts that have been negotiated prerelease.
